This year I have consumed the entire patch cycle with a major performance overhaul that will address several key weak points in the game engine and codebase. I spent numerous days before release in the Validator and can confidently say this is our most stable and balanced release we have pushed so far in our decade long history! But its still far from perfect. I have been aware for years of the performance issues and have dedicated major development resources to addressing it with much success, the game is now stable enough to host over 25 players at a time for hours (at speed two/three) and I can reach year 2250 in an observe game in record time compared to 3 years ago. Later milestones are a bit more empty primarily for these reasons. As well as secret Ideas and projects that we simply want to save for the WOW factor on release day. There are also plenty of projects that are not listed here that are either being researched or being tested before being approved. Most likely, they will happen after release, or else push development past 2024 by a few months. There are still plans to rework all the portraits and to get unique unit models in-game for all factions, these will come in time and are tied to no particular milestone. Generally though everything after v1.4.0 should begin to pick up the pace. The past three years of development have tackled a lot of our most important systems and balance issues with the factions in the Old World, while creating the template for everything that will follow for the other factions, we have a few major pieces to finish and then more minor mechanics which will come sporadically during later milestones. We also welcomed members of the industrious Imperator modding community into our ranks to help breath some life into the sunset game. I am still confident that I can finish v2.0 of the CK2 version of the game by the end of 2024 (roughly 2 more years of development).Īt which point it may just be the greatest Warhammer Fantasy game of all time, completely free thanks to Paradox (admittedly DLC is another story). Since I have assumed management of the project, we have yet to miss a major deadline, or fallen behind on a milestone. These past few years however have allowed things to settle down for us to get our affairs back in order and form a good routine to deliver on the long terms goals of the project. The last few years have been productive, but haphazardly so, thanks in large part to the worldwide pandemic and the somewhat surprising release of CK3. I'm very proud of just how far the game has come and delighted to see so many fans still playing after so long.
